A Beginner’s Guide to GAMCA: Everything You Need to Know.

GAMCA, which stands for the Gulf Approved Medical Centres Association, is a mandatory medical examination for individuals traveling to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries for employment, a work visa, or a family visa.

What is GAMCA?

GAMCA is an organization that oversees a network of authorized medical centers that conduct pre-departure medical examinations for people from various countries who wish to travel to the six GCC nations. The GCC countries that require this medical test are:

  • United Arab Emirates (UAE)
  • Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
  • Qatar
  • Kuwait
  • Oman
  • Bahrain

The primary purpose of this medical screening is to ensure that incoming foreign workers are free from infectious diseases and chronic illnesses that could pose a public health risk to the local population.

The Step-by-Step Process

The process for a GAMCA medical test has been streamlined to a few key steps:

  1. Online Registration: All applicants must register online through the official Gamca portal. During this step, you will be required to fill out your personal details, select your visa type, and pay the required fees using a credit card.
  2. Medical Slip Generation: After successful online registration and payment, a medical appointment slip will be generated. This slip contains a unique registration number, your personal details, and the name and address of the specific GAMCA-approved medical center assigned to you. The center is randomly assigned, and you cannot choose your own. The slip is typically valid for 30 days.
  3. Visiting the Medical Center: You must visit the designated medical center on your appointment date. Make sure to bring all the required documents with you.
  4. Undergoing the Examination: The medical examination is comprehensive and usually includes:
    • Physical Examination: A general check-up to assess your overall health.
    • Blood Tests: To screen for diseases like HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis B and C, syphilis, and other sexually transmitted infections.
    • Chest X-ray: To check for tuberculosis and other respiratory issues.
    • Urine and Stool Analysis: To detect infectious diseases or other health conditions.
  5. Receiving Results: The medical center will submit your results to the online system. You can check your medical status online by entering your passport number and nationality. The results are typically available within 2-5 days.

Required Documents

When you go for your GAMCA medical examination, you must have the following documents:

  • Original passport (with at least six months of validity) and a photocopy.
  • Passport-sized photographs (the number and background color may vary, so it’s best to confirm with your agency or the center).
  • A copy of your visa or job offer letter.
  • The GAMCAonline registration slip.
  • The payment receipt for the medical test.

What Happens After the Test?

The medical report will declare you as either “Fit” or “Unfit” for travel.

  • Fit: If you are declared medically “Fit,” you can proceed with your visa application. The medical certificate is usually valid for 60 to 90 days.
  • Unfit: If you are declared “Unfit,” it means a medical condition was detected that disqualifies you. In some cases, you may be able to reapply after a certain period of time, but for certain diseases like HIV or active tuberculosis, it may result in a permanent ban.
