What is GAMCA, and why is it Mandatory for GCC Visas?

GAMCA, which stands for the Gulf Approved Medical Centres Association, is a mandatory medical examination for individuals seeking visas to work or reside in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries. The organization is now officially known as Wafid.

Why is it Mandatory for GCC Visas?

The GAMCA medical test is a compulsory part of the visa application process for several critical reasons:

1. Public Health Protection The primary purpose of the GAMCA test is to protect the public health of the GCC nations. It is a preventative measure to screen all incoming foreign workers and residents for infectious and contagious diseases that could pose a risk to the local population. The tests are designed to detect conditions such as:

  • HIV/AIDS
  • Tuberculosis (TB)
  • Hepatitis B and C
  • Syphilis and other communicable diseases

2. Ensuring Fitness for Work Many jobs in the GCC, particularly in sectors like construction, oil and gas, and domestic services, are physically demanding. The medical test ensures that individuals are in good physical health and are fit enough to perform their job duties without risking their own well-being or causing workplace accidents.

3. Compliance with Legal and Immigration Requirements The GAMCA medical test is a legal requirement for obtaining a work or residence visa in any of the six GCC countries (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE). Without a valid “Fit” medical report from an approved GAMCA center, your visa application will be considered incomplete and will be rejected. Attempting to enter or work in a GCC country without this clearance can lead to deportation.

4. Uniformity and Control By centralizing the medical screening through an association of approved centers (Wafid), the GCC countries can maintain a uniform and consistent standard for health checks. This system ensures that all applicants are subject to the same strict health criteria, regardless of their country of origin.
